You Give, and You give again

Ever wonder why someone refuses to give up on you and keeps showering love/patience on you, despite the many times you've failed that someone? With friends, family, and even acquaintances I have little patience and it is my nature to just want to cut them off from me (or show my displeasure) at the first instance an offense or act of failure is committed. Yet He refuses to give up on us, even though He should and could do so.

I really like this commercial:

He gives and He gives and He gives! And unlike the character in this commercial whose gratitude is totally misplaced due to his lack of understanding/miscommunication, we have this assurance of God's character - his patience, love, and gift-giving.

Ever since maybe high school, definitely college, I have been seeking after a holy grail of sorts - some kind of solution to my problems and a source of happiness. At different points in my life this "holy grail" that I have longed for has morphed into different things, such as deep friendship, sense of home, companionship, the perfect wife, or the reunion of my family. I figured that when I would have those things my life would exponentially become better... Yet upon listening to RC Sproul's "Grace to the Humble" talk, I realized that all these things that I think would fulfill me are ultimately going to fail in doing that... That, as Augustine put it, "Our hearts our restless until they find their rest in thee". It was a good realization... something that I will have to continue to remind myself as my innate desire for a "holy grail" in my life will not automatically disappear. It is something that I will have to fight on a regular basis.
