Highlights from the Day

  • Spent probably the most on groceries in a long time (>$70)
  • But some of that went into materials to be used in the future (jar of garlic, olive oil, etc.)
  • Spent the most time in the PRODUCE (greens, veggies, fruits, etc.) for what seemed to be the first time ever, looking for new ingredients like Parsley that I'd never used before
  • Made 3 different dishes (2 main ones)
  • Ironically the best tasting dish of the night was the 3rd one, which I made from the scraps left over
  • The grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and eating all took >4hrs
  • Went to Relay for Life (an event raising awareness and financial support for the fight against cancer, associated with American Cancer Society) and for the first time (after 4 years of hearing about it and visiting during college) participated in the reflective portion of the night, where poems, stories, and solemn music were shared, followed by walking in silence/quiet around the track a few times. It was the nicest weather I've seen for that event in the few times I've gone to visit.
  • Could not hlep but think of brokenness (in this case in the form of cancer impacting people from all strata of life and backgrounds) in terms of my Christian lens, how ultimate restoration and cure of all diseases will not come from a sense of hope in an organization or cause vowing to "fight for a cure" but in the life-giving, life-changing power of Christ with us now and Christ to be with us in the future.
