Midwest (West) CMDA Student Winter Retreat
Speaker: Rick Donlon, MD
Dates: January 16-17, 2009
Location: St Louis, MO

"Topic: Three Ideas that Could Change the World – Modern American Christianity stands in sharp contrast to that which Jesus described in the Sermon on the Mount. Rather than producing disciples, who lay everything on the line for God’s glory, we generate believers who are difficult to distinguish from the culture around us. Rather than embracing biblical discipleship, we’re primarily concerned with our own happiness and security. Because of the high value American culture places on professional attainment and material gain; medical and dental students are particularly at risk for accepting a counterfeit version of discipleship. While God is advancing His kingdom, we pursue our own agendas. Something Ain’t Right."

How easy it is to slip back into wanting the American dream... I'm looking forward to getting a renewed vision through this conference... At the same time, I feel myself wanting to hold onto the comfortable life. Oh, how Romans is such an accurate reflection of our struggles (e.g. Romans 7:15-20 and Romans 8:5-10), esp. in this most prosperous nation in the world (although who knows how long that will last... doesn't look very good these days, does it?).
