Lost in Thought

Too many thoughts have been plaguing my mind recently - about life, purpose, significance, etc. It's been distracting at best, crippling at worst. This is the worst time to be thinking too much.

Fortunately, I had opportunities to not think so much. First, brunch with some classmates at this local restaurant where they had lunch buffet. They had a separate room full of food for the buffet and I was just so happy when I entered that room. The food was great, as was the company of friends. Right after we drove some 10-15 mins just to get to a Dairy Queen and get Blizzards (they've done a good job marketing via the Girl Scout cookie brand), where we ate dessert but also played an intense, Xtreme game of Uno for about 20-30 mins.

Then the clincher tonight. I almost thought about not having dinner since I had so much food for brunch, but decided to make some gumbo. While it's not anything fancy, the process of making the food just made me really happy. Something about putting my creative power into work, or maybe it was just something hands on, something concrete that's not just floating around in my head. I think that's what it was.

All in all, a great day to realize how much I love food and all that goes into it. Something nice and different for a change. :)

There's something special about cooking together with friends. It's a lesson I learned over time in both Massachusetts and Saint Louis.
