Getting Lost

In the concert band or orchestral setting, there's constant communication between the conductor and the ensemble. But there are times when the players get lost, either due to missed cues from the conductor or from their own lack of attention. Once that breach in communication occurs, the longer that disconnect between conductor and player, the harder it is to re-establish contact and for the player to get back into the music.

This happens sometimes with our relationships with people - the longer you wait to re-establish contact with an estranged friend or relative, the more awkward and harder it gets to make that happen.

It's only when the music is stopped that you can reconnect by starting at the same place again.
